Historical books are treasures that contain codicological elements describing their manufacture, materials and binding structures well as to the historical trail through which they have come down to us. Conservation work focuses on the preservation of these historical instances and aims to restore the functionality of the object in order to guarantee its correct reading and use and its transmission over time.
Each volume is then analysed and prepared for preliminary conservation operations, such as pre-intervention photographic documentation, dust removal and chemical tests on materials, inks and pigments. Firstly, these operations are of fundamental importance as they allow the restorer to assess and plan the best intervention that will be carried out on the basis of the specific conservation requirements of the individual case.
