This map, drawn by Antonio Astorri in 1516, is made with irongallic ink and hints of red pigment. The work, on thick laid paper, has long been kept folded, causing weakening of the support, which had dust, surface deposits and extensive stains running through the entire graphic media.
Once the mechanical cleaning operations were completed and the solubility tests of inks and pigments were carried out, the work was subjected to washing treatments to remove the stains and deacidification to limit the corrosive action of the inks. The small losses along the edges were filled in with japanese paper and the folds were reinforced with japanese tissue. Finally, the work was lightly flattened and returned in a custom-made folder with acid-free conservation board.
