Catastus Ecclesiarum,  1440-1549

Manuscript on paper bound in limp parchment

The conservation involved both the binding and the text block, which were very damaged. The cover had so many folds, losses and tears on the boards, spine and edges, and the stitching was damaged in many points. The text block had extensive damage to the edges, losses, folds and tears.

After preliminary dusting and mechanical cleaning, the paper support was restored using Japanese paper and tissue. The parchment cover, on the other hand, was tensioned, restored and, following the stitching of the volume, re-attached according to the original structural scheme.

We tell some of our most interesting challenges through pictures.

Each project is the result of an intense work of analysis and sharing of ideas and skills aimed at choosing the most suitable conservation techniques. In this section you can browse through our portfolio in which we have wanted to share, through a photographic report, a focus on some of the most representative conservation operations carried out on books, archive volumes, parchments, artefacts and works of art on paper.
